Materials & hallmark

The Signet is cast in 18k yellow gold — 750‰, the legal minimum title of gold in France. The alloy is 75% gold, 20% copper and 5% silver, and the face is ground to a matte finish so the engraved rose reads clearly.

Because the ring weighs 4.5 g — above the 3 g threshold — it carries the eagle's head fineness punch struck inside a hexagon, together with the maker's responsibility punch. Two punches, struck in Paris, are your guarantee that the metal is what we say it is.

The rose on the face is engraved by hand with a burin, like a seal. It is the same rose that marks our letters and our boxes.

The price of the metal

Gold is quoted at 4 085.40 USD per ounce on 22 October 2026, which works out to about 87.70 € per gram of 18k gold. At that rate, the metal in your Signet is 4.5 g × 87.70 € = 394.65 €.

The remaining 125.35 € is the making — the matte ground, the hand-engraved rose, the hallmarks, and the hours at the bench. We publish the price of the metal because we want the rest of the price to be legible too.

Care

  • Keep the engraved rose free of hand cream and dust: brush the face gently with a soft-bristled brush and warm soapy water.
  • Do not rub the matte face with a polishing cloth — the matte surface is the design, and hard rubbing would shine the spots where the burin worked.
  • Remove the ring before sport and heavy work, and store it separately so the face never rubs against another piece.

Complete the set

A signet is a piece to pass on. Match it with the talismans that can carry the same story.

Goldsmith's bench in the Emily Rose Paris atelier, tools laid out beside a half-finished piece

Made in the Paris atelier

The Signet is made in our atelier at 14 rue de Saintonge, in the Marais — one pair of hands from the first bar of gold to the last stroke of the burin.

Lost-wax casting

The ring is cast as a solid band from recycled 750‰ gold using the lost-wax process, an ancient method that leaves no seam.

Engraving

The face is ground matte, then the rose is engraved by hand with a burin — the same gesture a seal engraver would use.

Polishing and hallmarking

The band is polished, washed, and struck with the eagle's head and responsibility punches before it is checked against the weight we print.
