Frequently asked questions

Solid gold versus vermeil, ring sizing, engraving, shipping and repairs — the short answers, without the sales pitch.

Questions, answered

Twelve honest answers

Is this real gold?

Yes. Every Emily Rose piece is solid 18k gold — 750 thousandths: 75% gold, 20% copper, 5% silver. Nothing plated, nothing hollow. 750‰ is the legal minimum title for gold in France, and it is the house standard.

18k versus 14k — what changes?

The alloy. 18k is 750‰ gold, 14k is 585‰, 9k is 375‰. In France the 585 and 375 titles were only introduced in 1994 — before that, 18k was the only legal title. More gold means a richer colour and a higher metal value; more alloy means hardness and a lower price. For a fine jewellery piece, 18k is the French reference.

How do I know my ring size?

Rings are offered in EU sizes 50 to 58. The most reliable way is to measure a ring you already wear on the correct finger — its inner diameter in millimetres. If you hesitate between two sizes, choose the larger: a gold ring is easier to tighten than to enlarge.

Can you resize?

Yes. Most of our bands can be adjusted at the atelier, and if a size does not fit, we exchange it free of charge within the European Union. Write to us before ordering if your size sits at the edge of the range.

What does engraving cost?

Engraving costs 45 € and is added under five working days. We work by hand — initials, a date, or the rose motif — and it can be requested on any piece at checkout or by writing to us.

How long is delivery to France, the EU and the US?

Every order is dispatched from Paris within 48 hours. France: 2–3 working days, 6 €. European Union: 3–5 working days, 8 €, free over 250 €. Switzerland and the United Kingdom: 4–6 working days, 12 €. United States: 5–8 working days, 18 €.

Are duties included for the US?

No. Orders to non-EU destinations are shipped exclusive of taxes and duties. Any customs duties are the recipient's responsibility and are collected at delivery, outside the VAT we handle.

What is your returns policy?

You have 30 days to change your mind. The piece must be unused and in its original packaging. We refund within five working days of receiving the return, and returns are free within the European Union.

What do the hallmarks mean?

18k pieces are struck with the eagle's head inside a hexagon — the French state guarantee punch — alongside the maker's responsibility lozenge. Below three grams of gold, the fineness punch is not required. The marking system dates to the law of 1797; the current marks have been used since 1838.

Does gold tarnish?

Gold itself never tarnishes — it is chemically inert. What can dull a surface over time is the copper and silver in the alloy reacting with air, sweat and cosmetics. It is surface-deep and reversible: warm water and a soft brush bring the shine back.

Do you repair jewellery?

Yes — and repairs are free for life on every Emily Rose piece: cleaning, polishing, tightening, clasp replacement. Send us the piece and we take care of it at the atelier.

Are your pieces made in France?

Yes. Designed in New York, the pieces are cast and finished by hand in our Paris atelier — lost-wax casting, setting, polishing — and hallmarked in France. Twelve pieces per season, made in small numbers.

Still need a person?
