Drop of Light Necklace

440 €

A hand-cut rock crystal teardrop, held in a small collar of 18k gold on a fine chain. Rock crystal is clear quartz — it does not store light, it refracts it, throwing the daylight that passes through it. Cut in Paris, set in Paris, the necklace is light carried rather than kept.

Materials & hallmark

Crystal that lets light through

The alloy: 18 karat gold is 750 thousandths — 75% gold, 20% copper, 5% silver. It is the legal minimum fineness for gold in France, and the chain, collar and clasp of the Drop of Light are all made of it.

The crystal: rock crystal is a clear variety of quartz, cut and polished by hand in Paris. It is hard, but it is a mineral — it can chip on a hard edge, and it should be worn with the respect it is cut with.

The hallmarks: the Drop of Light holds 2.5 g of gold — under the 3 g French threshold — so it is exempt from the fineness punch. It still carries our maker's responsibility punch, which ties the piece to the atelier that made it.

The honest price

The price of the metal

On 22 October 2026, 18k gold costs about 87.70 € per gram (gold itself trades at 4,085.40 USD per ounce). The Drop of Light holds 2.5 g of gold — about 219 € at today's price.

The rest of the 440 € covers the fabrication: cutting and polishing the crystal, making the chain, setting, finishing, hallmarking, and the lifetime repair service. We keep the two figures separate so you always see what you pay for metal and what you pay for the hand.

Gold prices move; the price shown when you order is the price you pay.

Care

Three gestures for crystal and gold

Don't knock it

Rock crystal is hard but brittle. Avoid knocking the teardrop against edges, and take the necklace off before sport.

Wash and dry

Clean the gold and the crystal in warm water with a drop of mild soap, rinse, and dry with a soft cloth.

Store separately

Keep the Drop of Light in its own pouch: the crystal's edges can scratch another piece's gold — and another piece's metal can scratch the crystal.

The atelier

Cut and set in the Paris atelier

The Drop of Light is cut, set and finished at 14 rue de Saintonge, in the Marais — the same two hands from the crystal to the last polish.

Cutting the crystal

Slices of rock crystal are cut and polished by hand into teardrops, each one faced to catch the light.

Setting

The teardrop is held in a collar of 750‰ gold, pressed around the stone by hand — no glue, no hidden metal.

Finishing and hallmarking

The necklace is polished, inspected, and stamped with our maker's responsibility punch before it leaves the bench.
